XVI School of the Argentine Crystallography Association

Crystal Growth and Structural Resolution Methods

November 8-12, 2025
Knowledge Industry Park (PIC) - Universidad de la Punta (ULP)

The Argentine Crystallography Association (AACr) invites professionals from Exact and Natural Sciences, graduate students, and young researchers to participate in its XVI School, which will take place from November 8-12, 2025, within the framework of the XX Annual AACr Meeting.

The XVI AACr School has already been processed for certification as a graduate course by the National University of San Luis, accrediting a total of 50 hours (RR - 862 / 2025).

The theme of this edition will be: "Crystal Growth and Structural Resolution Methods", and will address three topics:

Growth of crystalline solids

Specifically as Single Crystals (of small molecules and macromolecules).

Resolution of crystal structures

Through Single Crystal X-Ray Diffraction (SC-XRD) technique.

Obtaining crystallographic data

Through Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM).

Registration

Registration is done with the unified registration form.

Program

You can download the detailed School program.

Objectives
  • To update and deepen knowledge related to crystal growth methodologies for small molecules and macromolecules.
  • To transmit the fundamentals and applications of single crystal X-ray diffraction technique and scanning electron microscopy, with emphasis on structural determination.
  • To contribute to the training of graduate students and young researchers in aspects related to the mentioned instrumental techniques.
  • To acquire knowledge about the scope and limitations of conventional or laboratory SC-XRD instruments. To disseminate the advantages of performing SC-XRD experiments in synchrotron light sources.
  • To acquire knowledge about the scope and limitations of TEM instruments.
  • To promote knowledge and training in the use of resolution, refinement and analysis programs for crystallographic data derived from SC-XRD and TEM experiments.
Contents

Topic 1

Crystal Growth. Thermodynamic and kinetic aspects of crystallization. Most common methodologies and practical considerations for growing single crystals of small molecules. Selection criteria for single crystals for SX-XRD experiments. Relationship between composition and the most suitable instrumental characteristics for their analysis.
